DIMAPUR, APRIL 23 (MExN): The Shamator Town Public Forum (STPF) has decried the abject lack of proper infrastructure and absence of medical doctor at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Shamator.
A press release issued by STPF president S Mukamchim said officials of the Forum conducted a physical verification of the CHC Shamator on April 23 to evaluate and assess the availability of its facilities, services and staff strength.
On verification, it discovered that the lone doctor posted at the CHC is wilfully absent from duty since November 2017. The health facility is merely being shouldered by 3 General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) and 1 Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), 1 Pharmacist, 1 Lab Technician, 2 Lab Attendant, 1 Dresser, 7 MA, 2 Vaccinator, 1 SW, 1 SI, 1 ASHA Coordinator, 1 Counsellor, 1 Block Programme Manager, 1 Family Welfare Assistant, 1 MDS (Malaria), 1 LDA and few other Grade-IV personnel.
The Forum said the building structure of the 12 bedded CHC is in a dilapidated condition and the ambulance has been missing since July 2017 on the pretext of the vehicle being sent for repairing out of station. The CHC have only 1 stretcher, 2 oxygen cylinders, 2 radiant warmers of which 1 is not properly functioning. Besides, there is no generator, blood storage, X-ray machine, Ultrasound, telephone connection or computer.
There is complete scarcity of water despite installation of stock tank and the facility suffers from unhygienic surrounding due to careless dumping of garbage and the electric wire connection are all worn out, the Forum went on to state.
Further, because of congestion, there is also no room for night duty staff personnel, it revealed. Due to this lack of proper services, facilities and medicines; especially those in emergency or casualty cases, the Forum lamented that the people of Shamator town are facing immense sufferings. In brief, CHC Shamator functions even below the standard of Sub-Centres, it stated.
