No Math teacher in GHS Diphupar since Sept 2015

Dimapur | March 2

Government High School Diphupar, one of the oldest GHSs in Dimapur district has not taught mathematics to the students since September 2015 even as 100 students from the school appeared in the just concluded HSLC exam.

The reason – the School Education department has not deputed another Math teacher after the lone Math teacher of GHS Diphupar was cross-transferred in September last year.

This was disclosed by the Diphupar Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) in a press briefing held at the GHS Diphupar premise.

DNSU members informed that despite repeated requests from the school authority and even the district administration to the Directorate of School Education, for immediate posting of a Math teacher to the school, so far the requests have fallen on deaf ears.

Expressing resentment at the casual attitude of the Education Department to the plight of the students, the DNSU members said they would wait for one week and if no action is taken within that time, DNSU and along with other student organizations would be compelled to take necessary course of action.

“We are not concerned over which teacher is transferred or who is supposed to come, but we are really concerned about the plight and fate of the students who are deprived of a Math teacher since September 2015,” said DNSU president, Sakulemba Jamir.

He also informed that last year in November the students resorted to agitation just four days before the Class IX exam, but the agitation was called off after the district administration assured to take up the issue with the Education department.

The director of School Education in an Order dated September 10, 2015, stated that in the “interest of public service”, the cross-transfer of graduate teachers (Science) of GHS Diphupar (Usha Devi) and GHS Angphang (Yangertoshi) under Aboi sub-division in Mon district, was to take effect immediately.

Interestingly, two weeks later, the director in another Order dated September 23, 2015, notified that Usha Devi “is hereby transferred to GHSS Chozuba vice Nainan K Varghese G/T (Sc) promoted to JEO Vide order no. EDS/RS/2011 dated 25/10/12, on the ground that her husband is working at Chozuba under Office of the Sub-Division Office PHE. The transfer order in r/o Yangertoshi G/T (Sc) stands. This order comes into immediate effect.”

When queried, teachers of GHS Diphupar confirmed that the school has been running without a Math teacher since September 2015. “This is affecting not only the students but even the teachers as well. The academic career of the students who are our future leaders cannot be compromised”, confided a teacher.

Another teacher said according to government school norms, the high school with present 572 students (Class VI to X) should have at least three Math teachers.

To make matters worse, the school building is also in a dilapidated condition.

The callous attitude of the Education Department may result in the academic deaths of many students aspiring for higher goals and dreams.
