Ahead of the assembly election, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will land in Nagaland and address a Congress public meting at Kohima on February 27. However, he is not expected to announce any sort of developmental or economic package to the Naga people during his visit.

“His visit is primarily for election campaigning. He will not announce any package because it will be a violation of the model code of conduct,” said NPCC president Hokheto Sumi. Precisely, about the stay of the Prime Ministers’ visit, Hokheto said that Manmohan Singh will stay in Nagaland for forty five minutes only, after which he will again fly to Meghalaya for attending another public meting for the Meghalaya assembly polls.

Nonetheless, Hokheto said that the visit of the Prime Minister would be a big impact on the position of the Congress in Nagaland. Also, when asked about the Naga integration issue in the NPCC election manifesto, which has created a lot of furor in Manipur, the NPCC President simply said that there was no way for them to remove that issue.

He said that the Naga integration issue is based on the 16-point agreement and the said agreement is a matter over 40 years old. However, he said that the NPCC has its aim of pursuing the integration issue which would be acceptable to ‘all concerned’.

However, he also added that ‘integration or disintegration of Manipur is not a matter of concern for the NPCC,’ he said that it was a matter for the Central government.
