World class interior designer interacts with youth

Dimapur, April 26 (MExN): Internationally acclaimed interior and event designer, Seyie Putsure on Thursday at an interaction held at Hiyo Cafe, Dimapur said that Nagas possess talent, and with the right vision and dedication, we can make it big. “Nagas are smart, talented, and we should take advantage of these gifts and talents,” said Seyie who is currently in Nagaland.

A celebrity in her own right, featured in Vogue, Elle, Lucky and Time magazines, Seyie Putsure is the epitome of hard work. With sheer hard work, dedication and perseverance, she has carved an identity for herself worldwide in the business of fashion. Her first job, she shares, was at Saks Fifth Avenue as an intern, and later as business executive for Chanel, and Dolce & Gabanna. Seyie recalls this phase of her career as formative and said, “It was during this time I developed my skills as an interior designer.” Wanting to do more, she then enrolled at the University of California LA Extension. After graduating, she went on to find ‘Seyie Designs’ in 2007. The company’s specialty is creating fashion and function.

To the young people present at the interaction, Seyie said, “You are at a much better advantage than I was.  Everything’s easier now because of the internet, whereas I had to figure my own way out”.  Encouraging the youngsters Seyie said, “I was a dreamer. I loved to dream big. Nagas should not be afraid to dream big, and we can do it”. However she opined that it’s hard for Naga people to be disciplined which is a huge disadvantage, because discipline and hard work is very important to be successful.

Seyie also shared that she was always a big dreamer. There is no shame in thinking ‘I can do it’, she felt adding that having the courage to dream helped her to become what she is today. She explained how her parents had a frame that read: “Those who dream the most, do the most”. “This affected me and I believe that one’s dream actually inspires one to work hard,” she said.

Motivating the youth and sharing what it was like to make it big, “When opportunity comes knocking, and the time is not perfect, you just have to forget everything and go ahead,” she said. Humorously, she also added, “I’m a big hustler” saying that when she started her company initially, she would try to get her name out wherever she went, and promote her business in every way she could.

“I pushed myself and I never said no to a good opportunity,” she said. However, the biggest challenge she felt is to be a businessperson at the same time as a creative one.

With this go getter attitude today Seyie is an international name to be reckoned with, treading and conquering the road less taken.

Seyie contemplates that in ten years time she would want to ‘grow as a designer’ and also expand her business to other countries as well. She also said that she loves to travel, and enjoys coming back to Nagaland every year and meeting her family and friends.

During the interaction, which is also a YouthNet series called ‘Young Nagas give back,’ Seyie presented an introduction to design world background and a brief glimpse about ‘Seyie Designs’. Speaking on the theme, ‘How to merge Fashion & Function into all of your interiors’, she gave pointers to the young people gathered on 20 ways to create fashionable & functional interior, and popular trends in interior designing.

Inspiring, talented, warm hearted, classy, and beautiful are just some words to describe this lady who wowed the group of young people at Hiyo Cafe. Curious students, aspiring designers, and simply curious people who admire the world renowned designer, turned up for the interaction and had a lovely time.
