No ‘tax’ allowed, says Police admn

Dimapur, June 9 (MExN): The police administration has said that investigations would be launched into the alleged “taxation” at police check gates on June 5 at Khuzama and Phesama. Superintendent Police of Kohima Zekotso Mero issued a statement today strongly reiterating that the ban on any sort of “taxation” or collection of levy by any department or organizations stands. 

In regard to the alleged taxation at Khuzama and Phesama check-gates, the SP has assured that the SDPO of Kohima has been directed to thoroughly investigate and submit a report so that departmental disciplinary action can be initiated against the errant personnel. The public and road users in general are requested by the police administration to inform the SP or any Gazetted officers of DEF Kohima if any of the check gate personnel are resorting to demanding or collecting money at the various Police check gates under Kohima district.

The SP expressed high appreciation to the Nagaland Voluntary Consumer Organization for bringing to the notice of authorities the illegal activity of some check gate personnel manning Khuzama and Phesama police check-gates.

The SP said that earlier in year 2009, due to the menace of illegal collection of money at Police check gates, the police authorities had issued circulars and directives to all the officers in-charge of Police stations and In-charge of various check gates. They were warned against demanding or collecting money at police check gates and defaulters would be severely dealt with.

“In addition, the undersigned personally briefed all the officers In-charge of the Police stations in Kohima district to immediately stop all sorts of illegal collections at the check gates and   that stern disciplinary action will be initiated against anyone found indulging in such activities,” the SP said.. 

The officer In-charge were also directed to personally and strictly warn the commanders and personnel detailed to various check gates not to resort to illegal collection or face the consequence, the SP added.
