Noklak bans single-use plastic from June 5

Noklak, May 26 (MExN): The District Administration Noklak has notified a ban on selected single-use plastic items within the jurisdiction of the Noklak Town Council with effect from June 5, citing serious environmental hazards caused by plastic waste.

According to the notification issued in compliance with the Government of Nagaland Urban Development Department notification, the banned items include all single-use plastic carry bags irrespective of thickness, size, or colour, and single-use plastic bottles used for drinking water and soft drinks with a capacity of less than one litre.

The administration informed that violation of the notification would attract penalties, including a fine of Rs 10,000 for the first offence and Rs 20,000 for the second offence, while repeated violations would lead to cancellation of trade licence or permit.

It further stated that regular checking and inspections would be conducted by the enforcement team to ensure strict implementation of the ban. Any violation detected during inspections would be dealt with as per the penalty provisions.

All individual vendors, commercial establishments, institutions, and organisations have been directed to discontinue the use, sale, storage, and distribution of the banned items.

The administration also encouraged the public to adopt eco-friendly alternatives such as cloth bags, jute bags, and reusable water containers.

Seeking public cooperation, the administration appealed to all stakeholders to contribute towards making Noklak town cleaner, healthier, and more environmentally responsible, the State DIPR informed.
