Noklak Case: KHM dismayed by delay in delivery of justice

Dimapur, September 14 (MExN):  Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam (KMH)—the apex women organisation of the Khiamniungan community—lamented the delay in delivery of justice to the two minor victims who were allegedly molested in Noklak district.

A series of investigation and interrogations took place by different inquiry teams but so far no results have emerged, the KMH President and General Secretary stated in a press release. The KMH stated that the FIR was lodged on July 27, 2021 and later a memorandum was submitted to the Governor demanding fair investigation and justice at the earliest.

“Initially the case was taken up by Noklak Police and later handed over to Special Investigation Team (SIT) from PHQ Kohima. The SIT has investigated and interrogated several other individuals apart from the two victims. However, there is no progress and the case has been at stake,” it pointed out.

Despite numerous appeals to the concerned authority, the KMH is appalled at the undue delay, it said while urging the law enforcing authority to expedite the case and deliver justice without further delay.

Further, the KHM stated that the “high profile” of the accused should not hinder justice in any form while adding that “there are also high possibilities of stigmatising the victims which might eventually result in shattered future of the two young girls.”
