
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 29 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Mon has informed that in view of the dilapidated condition of the bridge over Pongma River which have been the interstate lifeline for Mon and Namtola (Charaideo) becoming unserviceable and hazardous for commuters and vehicles, the old bridge will be decommissioned with immediate effect.
To this effect, commencement of dismantling of the existing Mon-Namtola bridge over Pongma river (Hamilton bridge), and construction of new bailey bridge (ch-177+000) at Namtola Mon Tizit Road at NH 702 will begin with effect from February 1, informed a notice from the DC.
Normal vehicular movement from Namtola to Tizit will remain suspended for 4 months with effect from February 1, 9:00 am onwards till May 31.
Movement of light, medium and passenger vehicles traveling via above mentioned route have been advised to take alternate route via Namtola Charali (Assam)-Landoiciarh-Jaboka-Pentom Junction (Tizit/Mon) till the launching of the new Mon-Namtola bailey bridge.
Further, in view of the limited load capacity of the steel girder bridge at the abovementioned alternate route, transporters and transport associations have been advised to strictly adhere to the stipulated weight limit (7 tons) of the bridge.
