Imphal, February 6 (NNN): Normal vehicular traffic along the Imphal-Jiribam section of national highway (NH-37) resumed on Saturday.
The normal vehicular traffic along this highway, the second lifeline of Manipur, was disturbed following an agitation by residents of Nungba area in protest against arrest of three local youths by a team of police commandos.
Denouncing the arrest of the three ‘innocent’ youths, the residents imposed indefinite blockade on the highway (NH-37) with immediate effect on Friday morning indefinitely, forcing hundreds of vehicles including goods transport trucks stranded midway.
The residents claimed that the three youths were innocent while condemning police action of using tear gas shells to disperse womenfolk who tried to snatch the youths from the hands of the police.
Reports said that the residents called off their stir of blocking the highway after the police released the three youths.
