AR organises veterinary camp Dimapur, January 17 (MExN): 41 Assam Rifles organised a veterinary camp at Talui Village in Ukhrul, Manipur with the help of 14 Mobile Field Veterinary Hospital, Leimakhong on January 14. The veterinary team from 14 Mobile Field Hospital assisted by vet assistants of the 41 AR examined around 527 domestic animals comprising mainly of cattles, dogs and poultry and also distributed medicines to the owners of the animals, a press release received here stated. Apart from medication, the cattles and dogs were also administered Anti Rabies vaccine as a precautionary measure to curtail the spread of rabies. According to the AR release, the domestic animals, especially cattle and poultry, are brought to the village from remote villages of Ukhrul district. Huge cache of ammo seized in Manipur Imphal, January 17 (PTI): A combined team of police and Assam Rifles today recovered a huge cache of ammunition from a forest at Sagolmang Pukhao area in Manipur's Imphal East district. Police said 300 rounds of M-16 rifles, 44 rounds of AK-47 rifles, two detonators and two local-made magazines were found wrapped in a big polythene bag. It was yet to be known which individual, group or militant outfit kept the ammunition there and for what purpose. Security forces were keeping a strict vigil in the state ahead of Republic Day. Guwahati holds art exhibition Guwahati, January 17 (TNN): Olympia Fine Arts International Exhibition and Symposium (OAFIES) was inaugurated at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra (SSK) in the city on Saturday, in an attempt to vie for greater art patronage and connoisseurship in Assam. The event will see 33 contemporary artists from 23 countries engaging in different sorts of art work in the city from January 16. The foreign artists will get an opportunity to be acquainted with Assamese and North east culture. "It is an unique event taking place in the northeast. The artists' fraternity here will get an opportunity to come in contact with international art. It will also serve as a widow to NE's cultural heritage. The venue is ideal to showcase Assam and the northeast as a great destination both for art and tourism," said Narayan Konwar, secretary SSK. OFAIES is being organized by Finland-based Olympia Fine Arts Association (OFAA), in association with Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra (SSK), state cultural affairs, in collaboration with IIT-G for logistical support. OFAA was formed during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
