Political conference in Ukhrul
Ukhrul, February 24 (MExN): The Naga People's Front (NPF), Ukhrul Division is organizing a one day Political Conference at Town Hall, Ukhrul on February 29 from 11:30 a.m. onwards. According to a press release from the organizing committee, NPF Manipur State Unit President Awangbow Newmai and his colleagues along with NPF leaders/workers/well wishers from Chandel, Tamenglong and Senapati will participate in the one day programme. This political conference will be the first and the biggest event organized by the NPF, Ukhrul Division in Ukhrul District HQs in 2016, the release informed. Party workers of all ranks and files, supporters and well wishers and also the public have been invited to attend the same.
1 die, 13 injured in mishap
Shillong, February 24 (PTI): At least one person was killed and 25 others were injured when a Tripura-bound bus fell off the road and rolled down into a 150-feet gorge in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district around midnight last night. Additional Deputy Commissioner K Nongbri said at least one person has died in the accident which took place at about midnight in the accident-prone stretch of NH 44 at Ratacherra area. He said the 25 injured were rushed to a hospital. The night bus from Guwahati was bound for Tripura and police and fire personnel have rushed to the accident site, he said. NH 44 is the only national highway that links Agartala with the rest of the seven NE states.
Meghalaya gets new chief justice
Shillong, February 24 (IANS): Justice Dinesh Maheshwari of Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court was on Wednesday sworn-in as the chief justice of Meghalaya. Governor V. Shanmuganathan administered the oath of office to Chief Justice Maheshwari at a ceremony at Raj Bhavan. Chief Justice Maheshwari, 57, succeeds Justice Uma Nath Singh who retired as chief justice on January 14. Since then, Justice Sudip Ranjan Singh served as the acting chief justice of the state high court.
