
Chopper makes emergency landing in Nagaon Nagaon, September 15 (IANS): At least eight people had a miraculous escape on Thursday after their helicopter made an emergency landing at Nagaon in Assam following a technical snag. The helicopter, belonging to Sky One Airways Pvt Ltd, took off from Guwahati and was bound for the Arunachal Pradesh capital Itanagar with two passengers and six crew members, informed sources said. MNF rallies against Liquor Act Aizawl, September 15 (PTI): The opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) on Thursday took out a rally protesting the opening of wine shops under the Mizoram Liquor Prohibition and Control Act, 2014. The MNF, which promised to impose prohibition again if voted to power in the 2018 state Assembly polls, demanded that the state government immediately close the wine shops. Speakers at the rally, including former Chief Minister Zoramthanga, alleged hundreds of people died in the state after wine shops were opened in different parts of the state since March last year. PRRS outbreak temporarily contained in Mizoram Aizawl, September 15 (PTI): With no more swine deaths reported in the state since August 19, Mizoram animal husbandry and veterinary department today said the outbreak of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) in the state is considered to have been temporarily contained. Secretary to the department K Lalnghinglova said, there are no report of swine death, though recurrence of the endemic situation is not ruled out, and the department considered that PRRS outbreak, reported from early April this year, has been temporarily contained. Unless all the suspected carriers of the dreaded PRRS virus are culled and the excretions sterilised, there is a high possibility of recurrence of the outbreak even after a few years, he said. At least 3,727 pigs and piglets died in the latest PRRS outbreak.
