Woman from Meghalaya found dead in west Delhi
New Delhi, February 9 (PTI): A 35-year-old woman from Meghalaya was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her rented accommodation in west Delhi's Janakpuri area today. The woman has been identified as Bahun Marbaninang, a native of Meghalaya. There were apparently some injury marks on her knees but the cause of death has not been ascertained as yet, a senior official said. During preliminary investigation, it emerged that the woman returned in the wee hours today from a party, which was organised by her friend who is the son of the owner of a private school in the area. "We are questioning her associates in order to construct a sequence of events in connection with the matter. No case has been registered so far," the senior official said.
3rd rhino killed in KNP this year
Jorhat, February 9 (PTI): Third rhino has been killed by poachers in last 40 days in Kaziranga National Park of Assam, a senior Forest official said today. The poachers killed the female adult rhino in the early hours yesterday on the westernmost side of Bagori, Divisional Forest Officer of the UNESCO declared World Heritage Site S.K. Seal Sharma said. The carcass was recovered with its horn removed and other body parts missing from a pit, Sharma said. The horn is estimated to be 500 gram in weight as the rhino was a 'sub-adult', the DFO said, adding, several cartridge shells of .303 rifle were recovered from between Daflang and Borbeel Forest Camps in Bagori Range.
Two PLFM Ultras beaten to death in Assam
Goalpara, February 9 (PTI): Two militants of the People's Liberation Front of Meghalaya were beaten to death in Goalpara district of Assam near Meghalaya border today, said a district top police official. The militant-brother duo were beaten to death by a mob at Rowmari Garopara area under Rongjuli police station on charge of terrorizing them by demanding extortion money, district Superintendent of Police Nitul Gogoi told PTI. One of the slain Ultras Babul Momin was wanted by police for indulging in anti-social activities and extortion demands, the SP said. Stating the other extremist was identified as (Energy) Momin, he said, adding that extortion demand letters and the Meghalaya-based PLFM letter pads were recovered from the slain militants.
Mizoram Guv calls Budget Session from March 15
Aizawl, February 9 (PTI): Mizoram Governor Lt General Nirbhay Sharma has called the Budget Session of the state legislature, the first session of the year, to commence from March 15, Assembly Secretariat officials said here today. The Governor would address the session on the first day, the officials said, adding the detailed programme would be chalked out at the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) chaired by Speaker Hiphei, scheduled to he held on Monday next. Meanwhile, Finance Minister Lalsawta told PTI that he intended to present a regular state annual budget for 2016-17 even as the plan size was yet to be known. "After abolition of the Planning Commission which was replaced by the NITI Aayog, the states have never been allocated annual plan outlay by the Centre compelling us to prepare budgets without knowing the plan size," Lalsawta said. He was forced to seek vote-on-account for two times during the current fiscal covering more than half-a-year due to absence of plan fund allocation and also absence of clarity on the sharing pattern of fund between the Centre and the state on centrally sponsored schemes, the minister said.
