NE student attacked in Delhi

New Delhi, May 12 (IANS):
A 19-year-old Manipuri student was beaten up by four-five unidentified people here when he resisted their robbery attempt, police said Monday. The incident took place Sunday night in Mukherjee Nagar area when Cham Pamei had gone there to meet some friends. Pamei received injuries on his head in the attack but is said to be out of danger. The attackers fled the spot upon seeing a motorcyclist passing by. The motorcycle rider rushed the victim to the Bara Hindu Rao hospital and called police. Pamei stays in Kotla Mubarakpur area of south Delhi and studies at NIIT. This year, around 10 cases of attacks, rape and robbery have been reported against people from the northeast in the national capital.

Rivers in spate threaten Tezu in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, May 12 (TNN):
Incessant rain in the last couple of days has flooded several rivers in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh threatening Tezu, the district headquarters, and its adjoining villages. The Tezu Nallah, Shukha Nallah and Dening Nallah rivers in the district are in spate because of downpour in the last six days. The water resources department (WRD) is monitoring the flood situation in the district, recording and updating the water level and intensity of the rainfall. According to WRD sources, 363.6mm rainfall was recorded during the last deluge, which is a sign of alarming flood situation. Dharanpur, Deorigaon and other villages in Namsai sub-division are already flooded by the Noa-Dihing river and if the rain continues at the same rate, other villages will also be inundated. "Shukha Nallah is posing the greatest threat as it is eroding the newly built security wall of the Airports Authority of India's (AAI) advance landing ground (ALG) as well as other parts of the airport," WRD assistant engineer S K Srivastav said.

EC orders repolling in two booths in Arunachal

Itanagar, May 12 (PTI):
The Election Commission (EC) has ordered repolling on 14 May at Richik and Chulla polling stations in Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh. Repolling was ordered following rigging in the two polling stations, chief electoral officer Chandra Bhusan Kumar said in a statement on Monday. People would cast their votes for both assembly and Lok Sabha elections for the Arunachal West parliamentary constituency, he said.
