Northern Rengma dictionary released

Tseminyu, July 11 (MExN): The Nthenyi (Northern Rengma) Literature Sub Committee released a Northern Rengma dictionary titled “Nthenyi Ajüübvü” authored by Kewachu Semy at Chunlikha in Tseminyu sub-division on July 10.  

Viyekha Apon, former MLA who attended the event as chief guest, dedicated the book to the Northern Rengma (Nthenyi) dialect speaking people. He stated that dialect is a gift of God which should be preserved as much as developed, according to a press release received here. He further iterated the importance of language/dialect and stressed that dialect helps one identify oneself and builds a sense of oneness and unity among people.  

The author, while introducing the book to the gathering, conveyed his gratitude to the many persons who supported and enabled him in publishing the book which is aimed at conserving and developing the ‘nthenyi’ dialect by reaching out to a greater audience, especially the younger generations.  

The book, which has more than 6000 words in Nthenyi (Northern Rengma) dialect, contains a separate section on word modulation, alphabets and phonetics, number system, names of birds, flora, days of the week and months of the year.
