Notify Election Com note on OoP, NPF tells Governor

Dimapur, August 18 (MExN): The NPF has asked the Governor of Nagaland to make public the communiqué he received from the Election Commission of India in regard to the case vis-à-vis office of profit filed against Opposition Leader I Imkong by nine Nagaland MLAs. The NPF expressed surprise that the Raj Bhavan has still yet to issue the notification which, according to the party, was received “as early as on 12th August 2006”.

“According to a copy of a communication from Shri C Paramasivam, Advocate, Supreme Court of India to the Governor of Nagaland on the matter concerning Mr Naiba Konyak, MLA and 9 other MLAs of Nagaland Legislative Assembly Vrs Shri I Imkong, MLA Leader of Opposition, registered under case No.31 (G) of 2006 of the Election Commission of India, it is confirmed that the honorable Election Commission had tendered their opinion to the Governor of Nagaland as early as on the 12th August 2006; it is also confirmed that the same has been received by the Raj Bhavan, Nagaland on time” stated an NPF release issued by Akang Ao, General Secretary. “On the basis of the aforesaid communication, it is expected of His Excellency, the Governor of Nagaland, to have issued the required notification immediately, but it is surprising that the raj Bhavan is keeping such an important matter of public interest pending so far” the NPF lamented.

The NPF demanded the same to be notified immediately “whether positive or negative” so that justice is done to the concern parties which is expected of him as the Constitutional head of the state and “supposed to be free from all bias and prejudices and deliver justice to all citizens of the state irrespective of political parties”.

It urged that “good sense will prevail” and necessary action be taken at the earliest by Raj Bhavan in the interest of concerned parties in particular and the public in general “so that the image of the Raj Bhavan and its sanctity be upheld and preserved”.

“It is also the sincere wish of the party that existing cordial relations with the Raj Bhavan will continue as in the past and that nothing should be allowed to spoil such goodwill which has been built up during the last few years and started bearing fruits in all aspects against all odds and obstacle” the NPF stated.
