Dimapur, July 12 (MExN): The Dimapur Police, on July 11, busted a possible SIM cards racket and arrested one Ashish Shah in this connection.
The Addl. Dy Commissioner of Police/PRO informed in a press note that initially 117 pre-activated SIM cards belonging to various service providers were seized from his shop at Hazi Park area but a subsequent raid of his residence leds to further seizure.
1241 SIM cards - both pre-activated and un-activated, 19 stamp seals of retailers, Letter pads of multiple Village Councils, passport size photographs of over 500 different individuals and other incriminating document were recovered from him, it added
The investigation into the case is being seriously undertaken as the matter concern security issues, fraud and violation of the guidelines set by the Department of Telecom, the PRO said.
The roles of the service providers in the racket are also being investigated into and appropriate action will be initiated if found involved, it added.
Meanwhile, the Dimapur Police would caution the various bodies authorized to issue residential certificates to exercise scrutiny while issuing such certificates lest they are liable to be prosecuted in future.
4 arrested on various extortion charges
Meanwhile, the Dimapur Police have also arrested 4 peoples on various extortion charges during the past fortnight. The arrest was made on June 29, when the AET (anti-extortion team) under Zone- I of Dimapur Police and personnel of Women Cell arrested a female identified as Toshili Yepthomi on charges of extortion while she was collecting illegal taxes from the butchers at Super Market area, Dimapur.
She is reportedly a ‘Rajapeyu’ under UT-1 of the GPRN/NSCN. A criminal case was registered is under investigation, the Police said.
The second arrest was made on July 9 when AET under Zone- I of Dimapur Police arrested two persons from Doshehe Market area on charges of extortion after they were caught forcibly collecting money from the trucks plying. The police identified them as Zhekito Awomi and Khuluto Yepthomi and a case was registered agaisnt him and the matter is under investigation.
On July 11, the Dimapur police also arrested one Joel Zeliang on charges of extortion after he was found issuing demand slip of the NNC (NA) to the business establishments in the market area. Incriminating documents were also seized from his possession and the case is under investigation at the East Police Station, the police said.
One arrested for murder
The Dimapur Police has arrested one Sajid Khan of Karimganj, Assam on charges of murdering one Rohim Ali. They were both working on a construction site at Padumphukhuri, Dimapur. The duo had an altercation over a mobile phone after being inebriated the accused struck the victim multiple times with a bamboo pole in the head resulting in death, the police said. A case was registered and under investigation.
