The English novel Nonpareille, authored by Sentsudy PB Sen Yanthan, was formally launched at VDB Hall, Wokha, on March 20, with Advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, as the special guest.

In his address, the Advisor described the occasion as significant, stating that writing a book demands creativity and imagination. Referring to the title Nonpareille, meaning “unmatched,” he termed it both distinctive and appealing. Emphasising the importance of reading habits, he observed that while digital platforms have become widespread, the value of reading physical books remains irreplaceable. He urged the younger generation to cultivate the habit of reading newspapers and books, noting a visible decline in readership in recent years.

Encouraging the author, Mhathung Yanthan remarked that the Lotha community has relatively few writers and stressed the importance of nurturing and utilising one’s God-given talents. He also called upon writers to produce more literary works in the Lotha dialect, adhering to spellings standardised by the literature committee.

Author Sentsudy PB Sen Yanthan, sharing his experience, said he began writing the novel last year and described the journey as both challenging and enriching. He noted that the process brought moments of encouragement as well as self-doubt, adding that he chose to transform his limitations into strengths. The book, dedicated to his late father, is a Christian-themed novel that highlights family, faith, and the resilience of the human spirit.

Nonpareille explores themes of youthful ambition, moral conviction, and the impact of personal choices, while celebrating friendship, family ties, and community values.

The book will be made available at Oren Book Stall and Nonghothüng Publication in Wokha, as well as 6th Finger Publisher in Kohima.
