Now CPO raises concerns over IRB recruitment process

Kohima, June 12 (MExN): The Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) has expressed serious concerns over the proposed recruitment model for the 12th Battalion of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) and other State Police recruitments, alleging irregularities and inconsistencies in the process.

In a representation addressed to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, the CPO stated that it had come to their notice that the State Police Department was considering a recruitment model similar to the ones used during the raising of the 9th, 10th, and 11th IR Battalions in 1999, 2002, and 2005, respectively.

However, it pointed out that the proposed recruitment chart was reportedly based on outdated population data from the 1991 and 2001 Census reports.

“This model not only disregards the current demographic realities but also contravenes the existing State Recruitment Policy and the provisions of the job reservation policy meant for Backward Tribes (BTs),” the CPO maintained.

It further expressed dismay that such a significant recruitment exercise was being planned without adherence to official policy frameworks, thereby undermining the principles of fairness, transparency, and justice.

‘An independent and arbitrary model is being manufactured, potentially disturbing the social fabric and harmony,’ it cautioned.

Emphasising that government employment remains one of the most sustainable livelihood options for youth, the CPO underscored the need for a clear, consistent, and inclusive recruitment policy.

It stated that the recent public unrest over recruitment-related issues highlighted the urgent need for a fair and accountable system.

Accordingly for equitable representation of police forces across the districts, it recommended distribution based on the most recent and legitimate 2011 Census data, thereby ensuring fair opportunity for all indigenous tribes of Nagaland.

The CPO also urged the State Government to address the issue with urgency, rectify past discrepancies, and establish a robust policy framework that upholds justice, equity, and equal opportunity.

It also assured full cooperation in efforts to promote justice, peace, and inclusive progress in the state.
