A total of 13 locations in Kohima are now active Wi-Fi Hotspots after they were ‘switch on’ and went live online on Friday under the Phase – 1 of Kohima Wi-Fi City initiative.

Sharing the locations of 13 Wi-Fi Hotspots on Friday on its official Twitter handle, the Kohima Smart City Project asked users to “Try it and feel free to give feedback.”

The 13 locations are:  High School Area (Employment Office), PHQ Area, High School Junction Area, Kohima Village Panchayat Hall, The Heritage Area (Raj Bhavan), Kohima Science College, Law College, State Indoor Stadium (TT), State Indoor Stadium (Badminton), Naga Hospital, RCEMPA, NST and Old MLA Junction.
To ‘switch’ on the Wi-Fi and go online, users have to select ‘Kohima Smart City Wi-Fi’ on their mobile or laptop’s network and sharing centre.

To login, the user must provide a phone number to receive a one-time password (OTP) and access the service.

It may be mentioned here that the Kohima Wi-Fi City Phase-1 was officially launched at the e-Naga Summit held at Regional Centre for Excellence in Music & Performing Arts (RCEMPA), Jotsoma  on November 30 by Dr Neikiesalie Kire, Advisor Urban Development & Municipal Affairs.

It is a collaborative effort of Information Technology and Communication (IT&C) and Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL).

Speaking at the launch then, Mmhonlumo Kikon, Advisor, IT&C, NRE and Science & Technology informed that it was fulfilment of Government’s assurance to provide free Wi-Fi hotspots in Kohima starting from Kohima Science College Jotsoma, announced a year back.

The first Wi-Fi hotspots will be ‘switch on’ at Kohima Science College and RCEMPA, following which more hotspot zones will be added in other areas of Kohima, The Morung Express then reported.

Users will be able to access the Wi-Fi by registering for free trial available for one month, after which it will be available at a minimal cost, it added.
