Now NNC/FGN impeaches Vice-President Zhopra Vero

Declares earlier press statement as ‘null and void’

Sanglao (Noklak)/Dimapur, October 22 (MExN): A day after announcing the impeachment its Kedahge (President) Brigadier (Retd) S Singnya, the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) issued another press statement declaring the impeachment of its Kedallo (Vice President) Zhopra Vero.

Vero was impeached based on Articles 22 and 28 of the Yehzabo of the Naga National Council/Federal Government of Nagaland (NNC/FGN), as stated in a release from the Ministry of Rali Wali Affairs/MIP, FGN.

The latest statement informed that the decision was adopted during an emergency meeting convened by the Kedahge on October 22 in Sanglao village to deliberate on the issues, as empowered under Article 19 (Executive Powers of the Kedahge FGN) of the Yehzabo of Nagaland. Directive for the meeting was issued on October 15.

All members of the council of Kilonsers, Regional Midan Peyus, and high-ranking Naga Army officers were present at the meeting and thorough discussion, the House unanimously decided to impeach Kedallo Vero, it added.

The House also unanimously resolved that no provision in the Yehzabo supports either the Kedallo (Vice President) impeaching the Kedahge (President) or the Speaker convening an emergency Tatar Hoho, the statement asserted.

Accordingly, the NNC/FGN declared the press and media statement that appeared on October 22 as “null and void.”

As per the latest statement, Vero allegedly “campaigned to overthrow the government” and attempted to claim the position of Kedahge clandestinely.

He was also accused of engaging in a “game of hide and seek politics” to remove Senka Ao from the position of President of the NNC.

The statement pointed out that Vero had been “impeached twice” before—once while serving as Joint Secretary by the NNC/FGN (Chedema Peace Campers) and another time by the Chakhesang Region from the post of Regional President of the NNC.

He was also impeached by the NNC/FGN government under the leadership of Brig (Retd) Singnya, it added.

The statement accused Vero of being a “problem creator/troublemaker” within the NNPGs by colluding and providing misleading information to others without consulting the council of Kilonsers, displaying a “one man, one government” mentality.

It also alleged financial misappropriation during his past 15 years in the Ministry of Chaplee Affairs, citing a lack of proper accountability and transparent development in the government.

Earlier, in a press release on October 21, the FGN had stated that Singnya had been impeached following an emergency session of the Tatar Hoho held in Dimapur. Charges of “senility and incompetence,” as well as “treason,” among others, were cited as reasons for the purported impeachment.

However, the new counter impeachment indicates significant internal turmoil within the NNC/FGN set-up.
