Dimapur, May 28 (MExN): The Ministry of Human Resources development (MHRD) and the Union Grants Commission (UGC) have mandated that all colleges should be assessed and accredited under guidelines of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) for quality education. Nagaland has also set up a State-Level Quality-Assurance Coordination Committee with the Higher Education minister as the chairman. The College Quality Assessment Committee is a working group constituted by the SLQACC for the purpose of creating awareness in institutions.
It is currently visiting 12 (B) colleges in the state. The team is Prof. SK Gupta (Controller of Examinations, NU) Rev. Fr. Dr Alphonsus D’souza (St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama), Dr RK Behera (Patkai Christian College) and Megono L Zetsuvi (Joint Director, Higher Education). Currently, only three institutions are assessed and accredited by NAAC out of the recognized and affiliated 49 colleges.
NAAC is no longer an option but a must towards quality education.
