DIMAPUR, MARCH 28 (MExN): The Nagaland Press Association (NPA) held a coordination meeting with the Press Clubs of Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung on March 28 at Press Point, Dimapur and deliberated on various issues confronting the press fraternity and stressed on strengthening the Association with the inclusion of more working journalists from the state.
The meeting resolved to urge the State Government to enhance the number of accredited journalists by implementing the new Accreditation Policy by notifying it in the official Gazette without further delay.
The meeting further urged the government to notify the enhancement of the Operational Subsidy of the Accredited Journalists as announced by Chief Minister in his Budget Speech during the just concluded budget session.
The press bodies also demanded that the government should convene the meeting of the Accreditation Committee at the earliest and clear the pending applications at the earliest so that journalists are benefited.
It further demanded the government to implement Pension and Health Schemes for the Working Journalists in consonance with the schemes being implemented in other states of the country, where journalist are availing the schemes.
Meanwhile, the NPA also stressed on going for a membership drive from April 1 to June 30, 2018. Journalists working in the state and having one year experience are eligible for membership. The Press Clubs of Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung have been requested to encourage its members to join the Association. Consequently, working Journalists in Kohima, Mokokchung and Dimapur can contact their respective press clubs for the membership forms, while journalists from other districts may contact the NPA for the forms, the press release stated.
