The Nagaland Peace Centre (NPC) today organized a thanksgiving service in commemoration with the 52nd anniversary of Peace Day here at Hotel Japfu.
“After 10 years of violence and bloodshed ceasefire came into being on September 6, 1964 and the opportunity for peace talk was provided with the Government of India for political settlement,” NPC chairman N. Theyo recollected while addressing the gathering.
However, the NPC chairman lamented that, “It is unfortunate to see that the Naga National workers failed to remain united to work to achieve what they desire for political solution is delayed because of disunity and infighting.”
The NPC appealed everyone to work for strengthening political force for peace and pray for the final political settlement of the Naga political issue. “We fully support the policy of peace efforts of the state government in dealing with the Naga groups who are engaged in political dialogue with the Government of India to resolve an acceptable and honourable Naga political solution,” Theyo said.
Theyo said NPC is closely associated with the Gandhi Peace Foundation, New Delhi. The aim of NPC is to uphold the policy of peace and discourage violence and bloodshed.
The NPC also expressed appreciation and support to FNR and church members who took a number of initiatives to bring about reconciliation and peace to prevail in our land. Theyo said that on August 3, 2015, NSCN (IM) took up a political venture and signed the frame work agreement with the Government of India with the hope that this historic agreement will resolve and would result in achieving a political aspiration of all Nagas wherever they are.
“Another move initiated by the Naga leaders who are aware and concern with the rest of the political groups who are engaged in ceasefire with the Government of India, to start a political dialogue with the Government of India under the dynamic leadership of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
The NPC also appealed to NSCN (K) and the NNC regime led by Adinno Phizo to think and consider to join ongoing peace process “so that the hanging political problem of Nagaland would be solved once for all. Desires and wishes of Naga people should be honoured and respected,” he said.
He said that it was the magnanimity of the intention of the Indian leaders like- Late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Late Indira Gandhi, Deve Gowda, PV Narasimha Rao, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and present prime minister Narendra Modi and his government to effect a change from military measures against the Nagas and opt for political engagement to find out political and peaceful solution to the Naga political problem.
“The Indian State recognized the uniqueness of Naga history which in itself exhibit the desire for peaceful political settlement,” he said.
S. Ghunakha Swu, member of governing body, NPC said where there is peace, there is no bloodshed, no hunger, no strife, no anxiety, worry and fear but development, prosperity progress, education and joy.
“Let Nagaland be a place of beauty forever through gaining peace. Power is powerful, let Nagaland be a land of powerful and prosperous through the attaining peace,” he said. Let us all be a big warrior of peace and make our Nagaland abode of joyous peace, he added.
Earlier, responsive reading was led by Theja Therieh while Chikhungo Puro, asst. pastor Chakhesang Baptist Church Kohima pronounced thanksgiving prayer. Nagaland College of Music & Fine Art presented special number while benediction was pronounced by Rev. Dr. V.K. Nuh.
