NPCB Peren observes National Eye Donation Fortnight

Peren, September 16 (MExN): National Program for Control of Blindness Peren district observed the National Eye donation Fortnight (August 25 to September 8) with the theme ‘Mission to Vision.’  

For public awareness on importance of eye donation a Junior Snooker Tournament was organized at Jalukie by NPCB Peren on September 3 in which Seitenmang walk away with a cash price of Rs. 4000/-as the champion including the highest break point award, while Aku got Rs. 2000 as the runner up.  

In the closing ceremony Dr. Hedungkiebe, District Nodal Officer NPCB Peren as the special guest informed the participants blindness due opacification of cornea (the black part of the eye) which can be restored by transplantation of another healthy cornea from a donor. At present approximately 35,000 corneas are collected in the country every year, whereas 150,000 are required annually to combat corneal transplant keeps getting longer with each passing days.  

As the demand for cornea is high adding every year he urge the participants to pledge for eye donation in the pledge card distributed to them.  

On September 8, a free eye cheek up was conducted at CHC Jalukie where 57 patients received free spectacles in the presence of Dr. D.A. Newmai, SMO CHC Jalukie before the DNO delivered a speech on various causes of blindness and importance of eye donation.
