Peren, March 16 (MExN): In a bid to raise awareness regarding effective disposal of waste, Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) team visited Tening Town and shared knowledge and strategies on proper waste management.
The programme was organised in collaboration with Tening Town Council and held at Town Council Hall on March 14 with NPCB, Scientist Yanathung Kithan as the resource person, stated a DIPR report.
While addressing the gathering, Scientist Yanathung Kithan stressed the importance of proper segregation and disposal of dry and wet waste for healthy environment to pave way for concepts of waste management.
He encouraged the gathering to reduce the use of single use products at maximum especially plastic substances and always try to recycle or reuse things other than disposing of, so as to help reduce waste from landfill which will eventually prevent land, water and air pollution. Yanathung urged the gathering to maintain a useful waste bin to deposit waste so that it can be converted into rich organic compost.
He also said that at present 62 million tonnes of waste is generated in the country annually and spoke on importance of duties of various authorities, waste generators, Nagaland integrated waste management policy and its visions and waste management rules and National green tribunal orders.
After the formal programme, a short group discussion was also held. Around 100 people attended the programme representing different wards/colony including ward GBs and ambassadors from nine wards of Tening Town.
