Dimapur, December 2 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee on Wednesday, expressed gratitude to Nagaland Governor RN Ravi for honouring NPC Chairperson Dr Imkongliba Ao, by way of presenting a bust to the people of Nagaland.

Dr Ao, as one of the early educated persons who grew with the Naga Political Movement, gave his life for the people, a press release from NPCC President K Therie stated.

According to Therie, the NPC was organised after Indian Forces advanced to defeat FGN that was raised after 1954 to resist aggression. During 1956-57 many villages were burnt down, people tortured and killed and many lived in the jungles for years, living off forest vegetation and wildlife, he added.

In this backdrop, he said that NPC was organised to represent the voice of the people, while adding that in the beginning, NNC/FGN also joined in the discussions but later backed out.

“We owe them for all that we are today. We appreciated the wisdom of 16-Points. Words are insufficient to express our gratitude to Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru for providing Article 371-A,” Therie stated.

The NPCC President lamented that Nagaland has not been able to develop like other states although Nagaland is the 16th State and has completed 58 years of Statehood. “We are fighting against ego,” he bemoaned.

“People who cannot sacrifice time, health and wealth are talking more than people that are holding rifles. People who fear crackers are braving before nuclear power. People who cannot live without Grants and Finance Commission awards are talking of self-dependency. One is free to express but it should also be realistic and should not misleading. We are supposed to be God’s children,” he articulated.

Therie meanwhile stated that there the Congress, having no objection to anyone who could improve statehood, offered talks with no conditions. However, he said “Talks with no conditions” is not a means to live but to find solution, and that delay in solution has destroyed the opportunities of development and job creation in the state.

He said that people like him who cannot fight by giving time, health and wealth, must contribute wisdom in building statehood to provide education, generate jobs and develop a vibrant economy and expressed belief that the vision of Dr Ao and the founding fathers of Statehood, was to raise their children with abundance of opportunities.
