NPCC condemns demolition of Churches

DIMAPUR, APRIL 12 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has condemned the demolition of three Churches—Evangelical Baptist Convention Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church Manipur and Catholic Holy Spirit Church in Manipur on April 11.

A press release from the Communications Department of the NPCC questioned the silence of the Chief Ministers of Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram and Meghalaya; and stated that the “BJP has already assessed the weakness of Christian members in the Parliament and State Assemblies.”

“For the Christian legislators, to remain in power and in the good book of the BJP government has become greater than their faith,” the NPCC claimed. “How many Churches in the tribal areas have construction permission? Should all the Churches that do not have construction permits be allowed to be destroyed?” the NPCC questioned.

“Time has come for the Christians to think deeper than just money and power. The issue is now survival of faith and identity,” the NPCC stated, adding that the “Northeast should no longer ignore the threat to our faith and identity.”
