NPCC counters NDPP’s ‘wild allegations’

Dimapur, June 2 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Tuesday expressed shock at the ‘wild allegations’ of the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), regarding the present state of poor infrastructure in the State.

A press release from the NPCC Communication Cell took a jibe at the NDPP’s “wild allegations of blaming Congress governments of the past” and accused the NDPP of “conveniently forgetting that all major infrastructures were only created during Congress time.”

“17 plus years is more than enough for regional parties to develop the state but they have miserably failed. NDPP must also remember that their party leader and Chief Minister CM, Neiphiu Rio was part of 3 Congress governments holding crucial portfolios of PWD and Home and therefore their allegations against Congress government of the past is being laid at the doorstep of Rio himself,” the release stated.

On tackling the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the NPCC observed that the Government of Nagaland established COVID War Room only after Lockdown 1.0 got over on April 14 and now after the end of Lockdown 4.0, the State Government has constituted a High Powered Committee replacing numerous committees that were all pulling in different directions.

“This shows the total failure of PDA government and we therefore advise the NDPP to concentrate on course correction of their government rather than level baseless allegations against Congress or some individual who showed them the mirror of truth,” it said.

On Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s statement that a ‘strategy group’ has been set up to build the State economy, the NPCC said this may sound good, “but having seen massive misgovernance for much of the past 17 years under his leadership, the only cheerleaders will be his coterie and cronies anticipating another golden opportunity out of disaster.”

“We only hope that the strategy group is not composed of the same people who have been colluding with Rio to make a mockery of governance in all spheres,” it said.

Stating that a grave socio-economic problem is emerging in the form of thousands of returnees coming from different cities of India, after suffering tremendously during lockdown period owing to job losses, racial abuses, hunger and being evicted as tenants, the Party said it was ironic that the same Government used to trumpet about its achievement on sending thousands of young people outside the State to earn livelihood. “In connivance with some outside training institutes and placement agencies, state government had signed numerous MoUs and dispatched our people without bothering to check the antecedents of those agencies or progress of our people. The government has totally failed on this front,” it said.

Claiming that Nagaland has homegrown HR/placement agencies, “some of whom under the patronage of the State Government have been functioning without any accountability so far,” the NPCC alleged that many of these agencies in addition to Government’s largesse have been profiteering by even taking certain amount of percentage cut from the monthly salary of those workers sent through them.

“Shockingly, when lockdown happened, many HR/Placement agencies and recruiting agents who were responsible for sending our people outside the state simply went incognito and left the poor workers to fend for themselves. Time has come for strong action against those who profiteered while jeopardizing the lives of our people,” the NPCC stated.
