NPCC criticizes govt’s failure to address conflict in Kiphire, Tsg

Kohima, August 21 (MExN): The NPCC has expressed shock to learn about the “total collapse” of State machinery to address the conflict situations in Kiphire and Tuensang and the “total apathy/ineptness of the NPF led BJP DAN government” displayed before the people of the two districts.

NPCC Goodwill Team headed by Ayang Aonok, Working President, NPCC toured Kiphire and Tuensang districts since August 16 and held separate consultative meetings with leaders of different tribe organisations, including the women, youth and student bodies, informed a press release from NPCC Working President.

The team held meetings with Sangtam and Tikhir leaders in Kiphire, with Yimchunger leaders at Shamator, and with Chang, Sangtam and Khiamniungan leaders in Tuensang.

Based on the interaction with the leaders, NPCC in the press release demanded that the State government enforces the rule of law to provide adequate security to people living under constant fear psychosis.

It also asked for immediate action on the memorandum/ charter of demands submitted by different tribe organisations without any fear or favour.

NPCC further demanded reining in tribal militias and confiscating their weapons. Assistance to displaced people and for those injured/killed in conflicts was also demanded.

The release also asked for adequate compensation to properties damaged “since many have lost their lifelong earnings invested in building their living homes.”

Meanwhile, NPCC urged for comprehensive action plan to prevent such conflicts in future.

It alleged that the present government has “allowed the simmering issues to go out of hand by taking knee jerk actions without going to the root causes.” In becoming a mute spectator to the state of happenings, the release said, the government has abdicated its responsibility towards the people. “Unless it acts upon the deteriorating situation, the so called opposition-less govt has no moral right to continue in the chair and preside over the destruction of the state.”
