The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president K Therie today demanded the dismissal of UDA government in Nagaland on grounds that it had violated the Constitution of India and is no longer a people’s government.
Addressing a press conference here today at Congress Bhavan, Therie said that the NPCC is going to submit a memorandum to Governor of Nagaland within a day or two, demanding dismissal of the state government.
Therie referred to news reports that the NSCN (IM) had cautioned members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly not to overstep their assigned role as facilitators of the Naga political solution and questioned as to “Who has assigned the role of facilitator?”
“I thought in the beginning it was the decision of the state legislative assembly but this has been assigned by NSCN (IM) to play a role of facilitator and the whole Nagaland state assembly has been playing for the last 17 years as facilitator as assigned by NSCN (IM),” Therie said.
NPCC president said that he expected that the Chief Minister would react “but this is the 4th day he has not reacted.”
Therie also took a swipe at Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s recent statement: “As facilitator I have nothing to say,” Therie questioned “Does he represent Nagaland people or he represents nothing?”
If he represents nothing, then why he should sit in the chair of people’s government, Therie remarked.
“He should be dismissed. This is the demand I am going to submit to the Governor,” Therie said, maintaining that “this (UDA) government is no more people’s government but is acting under the directive and playing a role of facilitator as assigned by NSCN (IM).”
Therefore, I am demanding the dismissal of this government to facilitate the implementation of the political solution, he added.
