DIMAPUR, MAY 13 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today informed that it would launch a protest dharna (Sit-in-protest) on May 20 in the respective DC office premises “to deliver the rights under MGNREGA to the people.” A press note from the NPCC informed that the sit-in protest will be addressed by NPCC office bearers, PCC members of respective districts and DCC office bearers including volunteers.
It stated that “according to the Independence day message, Nagaland has 4.15 Lakh MGNREGA Job Card holders.” “If so, the Government should be able to generate Rs. 643.25 Crs annually, whereas Nagaland state could only generate 199.47 Crs according to MGNREGA official website, for which the VDB Secretaries and VCCs gave blank cheques on demand from RD department. This is the reason of corruption,” the NPCC alleged.
It stated that wages money cannot be converted to any other schemes nor can it be diverted. “The true essence of ‘Convergence’ is that funds from other departments can be diverted to employ unskilled labour under MGNREGA to help increase beyond the 100 days wages. In no case can MGNREGA 100 days wages be diverted, misused or converted to other schemes,” it added.
