‘NPCC endeavours to solve problem through peaceful means’

Dimapur, January 23 (MExN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today alleged that NPF cannot understand the issues and values concerning the people of Nagaland, stating in the present crisis, the issues are sensitive enough since it concerns with the feelings and sentiment of women folks and tribes organizations along with their culture and social practices.

“It also concerns with the future of urban habitats. We cannot allow the Government to override them just because of money and power,” stated a press release from Media Cell, NPCC.

The Congress asserted that it stands by one third reservation for women but also holds high regard for different tribe organizations and their feelings equally, “for they are the strength of democracy and not enemies.”

Its consistent policy, it said, is to endeavour to solve problem through peaceful means. “We believe in consensus in issues that has been raised by various tribe hohos and not through confrontation. Obedience to law is duty of every citizen and enforcing the law of the land should be the last resort.”

It added, “Forcing nomination, evacuating nominees to unknown place, changing nomination place and extension of nomination filing date have already marred the charm of ULB election. The continued agitation by Tribe Organizations will be a long drawn war. We do not believe any ULB will be able to function peacefully without people’s support and co-operation.”

The NPCC further asked why not postpone the ULB elections if people have waited for decade to develop consensus. “Opposition less government has made amendment to Nagaland Municipal Act 2016 and therefore, it was presumed that stakeholders were taken into confidence. The agitation proves that 60 MLAs did not know the content of amendment, neither they are in control,” it maintained.

Accusing that the agitation is out of NPF infighting, NPCC further said, “It only proves everything is not well in the NPF.”

“DAN earlier said in 2009 that because of Nagaland political problem, urban election was not conducive and has used ULB bodies as platform to reward its party workers for long. What has changed in the political problem?” NPCC asked.
