Accuses NPF of being a ‘Yes’ regional party to BJP
Dimapur, October 9 (MExN): NPCC today launched a scathing attack on Nagaland BJP on secularism and said that the Party is in a denial mode as it is “against freedom of religion”
“Whatever happened against Christians has happened in BJP ruled states and by BJP frontal organizations. It has escalated when BJP came to power in 2014,” alleged the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President K. Therie in a press note received here.
The State Congress was responding to a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland rejoinder that the Party has no agenda of “Hindunisation” as assumed and NPCC’s criticism around the view that BJP is non-secular is “nothing but cheap propaganda tactics for publicity.”
Apart from flaring up on “anti-Christian activities,” Christian “sanctified days” are also engaged as working days after the BJP Government came to power, the NPCC further maintained citing the declaration of Christmas Day as ‘Good Governance Day’ and Good Friday as ‘Judges’ Conference day’ etc as evidence.
It also cited instances of several attrocites committed by frontal Hindu organisation having alleged links with the BJP that occurred either in a BJP-ruled state or when the Party was in power at the centre.
It also alleged that the BJP further want to “disturb the sacred festivities of Christians and let people forget Christmas and New Year Holy days” in times to come by changing the financial year ending to the month of December from what is presently conducted in March.
NPCC further said that the “India’s Freedom of Religion Acts” referred to as anti-conversion laws, was supposed to curb religious conversions made by “force,” “fraud” or “allurement,” but “Hindu nationalists are invoking them to harass Christian workers with spurious arrests and incarcerations even for conversions generally.”
Further attacking the BJP of saffronisation of education, NPCC said that the present BLP-lead central government is also changing the syllabus of schools and universities to “brainwash” the new generations.
“Hindi and Sanskrit are compulsory in Schools and they intent to enforce in Universities also,” it added.
The State Congress also alleged that “even Raj Bhavan Kohima has done away with invocation prayer that was customary in the past.”
“There is nothing to reflect freedom of religion in the whole of State programs. Excepting National anthem which is customary, nothing more brings joy in the functions,” NPCC said.
NPCC also accused that Naga Peoples’ Front of surrendering to BJP without “any regional contents” and acting on their command.
“They do not behave like regionalists anymore. They are ‘YES’ regional party to BJP... They believe in money and power. They have lost faith. They talk high of regionalism but have lost regional character altogether.”
It further contended that while some people in the state has joined the BJP “thinking it will rule in the centre for at least two terms,” their calculation was wrong.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Government will be a paper tiger after he loses the UP election and BJP will be rooted-out by May 2019, NPCC further asserted.
It also maintained that Modi cannot be compared with Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was respected by even the Opposition for his standings. Modi makes hollow promises and blame the Congress for the difficulties in implementation, it said.
