NPCC rejects Pitroda’s diversity analogies

Kohima, May 12 (MExN): Echoing the stance of All India Congress Committee, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has today announced its rejection of the analogies given by Sam Pitroda to ‘illustrate India's diversity.’

The unacceptable and unfortunate analogies were however drawn by him on his personal capacity and has nothing to do with the Congress Party, the NPCC stated.

This stance has been clearly communicated through appropriate party channels, it added. Despite this, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) attempt politicise the issue as “regrettable,” the NPCC stated.

According to the Committee, such an attempt is an indicator of "utter desperation in the face of an impending electoral rout."

The NPCC pointed out the "hypocrisy and irony" of the situation, considering several instances in the recent past where party leaders have been involved in comparatively worse cases without any proportionate official censure from the party. It cited what it termed as "racially loaded statements" from Union Minister Giriraj Singh in 2015, former BJP MP Tarun Vijay in 2017, and Santosh Ranjan Rai, the former national vice president of BJP's youth wing in 2021, as a few examples.

Accordingly, the NPCC affirmed its utmost respect for the rich diversity of India and its unwavering commitment to upholding the interests of all sections of society, irrespective of color or creed.
