Dimapur, November 9 (MExN): Dr. Shürhozelie’s statement ‘State media second to none’ was today termed as an “expedient to set things in its right perspective” by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC).
The NPCC, in a release issued by its Media Cell Chairman R. Paphino stated that it is silly and ridiculous to ask the state media to project the achievements and developments of the DAN Government rather than giving coverage of criminal events like killings, rapes, kidnappings, etc. in the front page. “Criminal events hitting the front pages of the local papers in Nagaland rationally mean that DAN Government could not contain law and order problems. Regular feature of killings, kidnappings, intimidations, extortions, etc. being figured prominently in the daily papers implies that the Government of the day has failed miserably in discharging its duties for the people of Nagaland. As such, the Minister’s comment indicates that the Government is deliberately shying away from its main responsibility,” the release further added.
There is no visible development worth its name in recent time, so ‘what exceptional achievement or development did the Minister talked about that captivate media attention to provide front page coverage in the paper,’ questioned NPCC while pointing out that Dr. Shürhozelie is simply creating a mirage to divert the mind of the people to cover up their failure.
The NPCC has also ridiculed the Minister and his Government for not doing anything to mitigate the multifarious problems of the Fourth Estate despite the difficulties and predicaments of the Media in Nagaland. “However, it is quite astonishing to observe that due to arrogant and pompous behaviors of some NPF leaders that drew flakes and indignations from the media fraternity, the Minister and NPF President realized their folly and expressed his sympathy and solidarity with the media friends in utmost sobriety. In fact, the Party which is in power can do lot of things to assuage the problems of Fourth-Estate. So if the DAN Government and NPF Party is serious, why not show their concerns in action rather than humming like bumble bee!” stated NPCC.
