NPCC urges HM to resign for Zunheboto incident

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 5: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today called for the resignation of Nagaland State Home Minister, G Kaito Aye, citing the manner in which the Nagaland State Government handled the recent confrontation between the NSCN (IM) and members of the public at Mukalimi Designated Camp, under Zunheboto district.

A press note from the NPCC stated that the incident “… more or less, showed the incompetence of the Home Minister, ineptitude of the Chief Minister and disappearance of any semblance of governance.”

NPCC stated that the State Government “could have easily prevented the showdown leading to loss of precious civilian lives, had it promptly arrested the three erring cadres responsible for molesting two women passenger on  December 21, since the victims had already filed an FIR at Zunheboto police station.”

However, it lamented that “instead of acting on the complaint, the state government chose to play second fiddle leading to loss of precious lives.” “During this whole episode and even after, the state government stuck out like a sore thumb due to its silence on such an important matter, with both the Home Minister and the Chief Minister playing safe,” it added.

NPCC further questioned the “Equi-closeness” policy of the Naga Peoples Front and queried “whether it has helped Nagas find peace these past 10 years?” Questioning whether “the equi-closeness policy was a ploy to safely loot public treasury and shun governance?” the NPCC iterated that the NPF government has “utterly failed on all fronts.”
