DIMAPUR, OCT 12 (MExN): The Nagaland People’s Front, 2 Dimapur II A/C formally inducted the office bearers of the A/C’s Women Wing at a simple ceremony held on October 10 at the residence of the constituency MLA and Parliamentary Secretary for Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Y. Hewoto Awomi.
Exhorting the party workers, Hewoto first of all expressed his sincere gratitude to all his party workers and supporters and attributed his success to them. “Without you I am nothing. Though people have called me a giant slayer, it is not because of me but because of your sincere efforts at the grassroots level that I have earned such a title. The real credit goes to you,” he said.
Sharing his vision for the success and betterment of the NPF party in Nagaland, Hewoto highlighted the benefits of regionalism wherein power lay at the grassroots unlike national political parties wherein the high command was elsewhere. “It is because of our visionary leaders like the honorable Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Dr. Shurhozelie and Thenucho that Nagaland is being transformed into a new age.
Under their wise leadership, we have faced many battles and we have emerged victorious in all. This shows that the NPF party is taking regionalism to unprecedented heights in Nagaland,” Hewoto said and added that the main battle was to defeat the Congress party which has been successful. Nevertheless, he called upon party workers not to be complacent but to continue to strive so that the party creates a chain of success.
Expressing his gratitude to the office bearers of the Women Wing, Hewoto said, “I am the luckiest person in the world for I have found the right people at the right time for the right job,” and further added that sincerity, dedication and perseverance was the key to achieving success in life.
Delivering her first presidential address, Aphien Gonmei, president, Women Wing NPF 2 Dimapur II A/C, expressed her gratitude to the party leadership for posing their faith in her and assured to carry out her responsibilities to the fullest. She assured her full cooperation and was optimistic that they would all work hand in hand.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the A/C’s women wing general secretary, Khiemou Leigise said that it was a great privilege and assured to render her best for the betterment of the party.
In his brief speech, the Constituency’s CEC member, Mughavi Chishi said that politics was a field where one has to render their best, selflessly, in order to achieve something. “We have to strive continually to strengthen the hands of our MLA Y. Hewoto Awomi, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and the NPF party,” he added.
Expounding in the importance of women, the NPF Dimapur Division general secretary, M. Khate who is also advisor to the A/C stated that NPF may be the youngest political party but it has achieved far more than anyone can imagine. This, he said was possible not by any individual, but the Naga people’s desire for a change.
Women Wing president of Dimapur Division, Tiala Sapuh in her speech stated that Dimapur 2 A/C was a prestigious constituency and she said that the formation of its Women Wing would strengthen the hands of the NPF party since “I believe that we can work better when we join hands.”
Also addressing the function was Chairperson of the Dimapur Municipal Council, Y. Vikheho Awomi who is also advisor to the constituency. He expressed his pleasure over the formation and said that women had played a pivotal role in the past many elections that the NPF had seen particularly in Dimapur 2 A/C. He recalled the string of successes right from the 2003 general elections to his election to head the DMC and expressed his gratitude to the women for playing their part. He further advised them that sincerity and dedication were the most essential qualities for one to achieve one’s goals and said that with such dedicated women leaders, the NPF had greatly consolidated its base in Dimapur 2 A/C.
Winding up the programme, the Dimapur 2 A/C president, Aowati Longkumer expressed his happiness over the formation of the Women Wing. He said that though it had taken some time, it was due to the many elections that the party had faced within two years. Nonetheless, he was optimistic that the party would be able to function better than ever.
Earlier, the A/C’s general secretary Vitohe Chishi delivered the welcome address and formally introduced the office bearers. The Women Wing, NPF 2 Dimapur II A/C is now led by Aphien Gonmei as the president, Yanbolomi as vice president, Khiemou Leigise as general secretary, Hukali as treasurer, Atula as secretary and Toshili, Akatoli, Sulembeni and Nzano as executive members.
All office bearers and senior party workers attended the function which was hosted by Tosheli Awomi, convenor of Women Coordination Committee, NPF 2 Dimapur II A/C who is also the lady wife of Hewoto Awomi.
The programme was chaired by the A/C president, Aowati Longkumer. Invocation was pronounced by Shikuto Yeptho, A/C vice president while benediction was done by Imkong Wati Longchar, secretary to the A/C.
