DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 6 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front Party manifesto today admitted that “disarray and petty politics” had plagued the tenure of the 12th House of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
“Many elected members swung back and forth, subjecting the State to a traumatic phase of instability and uncertainty, compelling some of their own cohorts on a new political platform to comment and declare that this was ‘the worst government in the history of Nagaland’ with ‘no sign of governance,’” stated the manifesto released on February 6.
It, however, claimed that the NPF is now “refined,” and “if given the mandate by the people, will initiate drastic and effective amendments to the provisions of ‘The Members of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (Disqualification on the Ground of Defection) Rules, 2003, to ensure that the intents and objectives of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of India are fully protected and applied without any ambiguity.”
The Party also promised to ensure that “it becomes next to impossible for self seeking Nagaland Legislators to hold the people’s mandate in hostage by twisting the ‘Rules’ of 2003 to suit their own selfish interests.” “We will put a strong check on the politics of sheer opportunism,” it said.
