NPF begging for another financial package: NPCC

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 15 (MExN): The Opposition Congress party has pointed out that the ruling NPF government was ‘shamelessly begging for another Special Plan Assistance from the Government of India’. The Nagaland Congress was responding to the NPF media bureau. “Every time the NPF failed to find facts and figures to react, it retorts with irresponsible rhetoric, calling the Congress by all perceivable names so as to divert the public attention away from the issues raised by the Congress”, stated a press note issued by the NPCC Media Cell.
Terming the NPF as “a bunch of shameless beggars”, the NPCC wanted to know what the NPF was expecting from Rahul Gandhi, M.P and General Secretary AICC during his recent visit. “Were the NPF expecting more financial packages for looting again? A man of unblemished integrity like Rahul Gandhi was not blind to the sufferings of the common men. What made the NPF think the government of India would always grant financial packages like the special financial assistance of Rs. 712 crore and Special Plan Assistance (SPA) of Rs. 232.36 crore released to the State in 2010 and January 2011 respectively?” the NPCC stated.
From what is learnt, the NPCC stated that the NPF government was shamelessly begging for another Special Plan Assistance from the government of India. “Shame may not be in the dictionary of NPF but that doesn’t give them the right to shame the entire Nagas. They should give up their dark goggles that they may also see a little bit of shame”.
Expressing unhappiness over the attempt to mislead the people of Nagaland with negative publicity of Rahul Gandhi’s maiden visit, the NPCC stated that this simply showed how insecure and envious the NPF was. “Calling names on Shri. Rahul Gandhi, the heir-apparent to the throne was not only uncalled for but also put the State in poor light in the eyes of the entire country. Did it mean the NPF will not go to him when Rahul Gandhi becomes the head of the government sooner than expected?”
The NPCC Media Cell stated that it was not the Congress but the NPF that should stop living in fool’s paradise as to talk as if the NPF government is not responsible to the central government. “Despite the States enjoying liberal federal powers, there’s no denying the fact that the Centre is the high command to all the States by a strong Centre-State relationship. Wasn’t the NDA government their high command at one point of time? If the NPF government has the illusion to believe that it is not responsible to the Central government it should also stop seeking grants from the Centre”.

Pointing out that the Congress, or for that matter all the national political parties have their high commands in Delhi however in the case of NPF, it is “low command as people could see their care-free style of functioning”. “If the Nagas are not hero worshippers, why do the NPF people always eulogize the names of Shri. Neiphiu Rio and Dr. Shürhozelie ?  Are they not sycophants to their so-called collective leadership?”

The NPCC stated that the NPF should know that the UPA government is not sleeping over the corruption cases. All those accused have been put behind bars even before been charge-sheeted. “The law is taking its own course of action. If NPF wants to be sacrosanct in corruption cases and point fingers at the Congress, it should follow suit and put the corrupt people behind bars. Lest the NPF have forgotten, to name a few, the Congress takes the pleasure to remind them of the following cases” (see box).

According to the Nagaland Congress, all these proved that percentage wise, the magnitude of corruption by NPF government must be much above the national level. “Why is the Chief Minister protecting these scandalous people? Or, was he too a party to all those scandals? Anyway, the hands of law are not too short from NPF legislators and their cronies. It’s just a matter of time”.

Stating that the NPF had “evaded in answering as to what were those accurate parameters of assessment in selecting Nagaland as the winner of State of States award for infrastructure development under small States’ category”, the NPCC pointed out that the “Nagas have the right to know what remarkable infrastructure had qualified the State for the award”.

“Let the NPF give district-wise details of all remarkable infrastructures that qualified the State for what they called the prestigious award. It’s such a shame that with our roads, the backbone of all physical infrastructures, in such deplorable conditions the NPF could blindly accept the award”.
