Dimapur | June 5
The Nagaland People’s Front and the Bharatiya Janata Party in Mokokchung have locked horns over the ‘visit’ of BJP MLA Tiameren’s son Dr Imtiwabong to Alongtaki under Mokokchung district, and the installation of an NPF office there. The NPF divisional office at Mokokchung alleges that Imtiwabong came with about 40 youths and “created serious situation outside the meeting place” during the proceedings of the party’s office installation at 30 Alongtaki Assembly Constituency. The BJP however says, “On hearing about the disturbance at Longchem he (Imtiwabong) rushed there and controlled the situation.”
Making a clarification in Dimapur today, Tiameren admitted that his son had borrowed his vehicle. But Imtiwabong, a government doctor, was in the area only to conduct a Malaria Virus Control Camp for Assiringyim and Nokpu villagers, the MLA said. The doctor was entangled after he offered to be a peacemaker when angry youths had confronted “opportunists” who had siphoned off funds meant for villagers, the legislator said. He however said there was no misunderstanding in the alliance between the two parties which are constituents to the DAN government.
The NPF division in a release said the office of the party was officially installed on June 3 last. “In the meeting, the constituency party workers expressed their gratitude and loving care of the NPF party leaders of the Division as well as the State level.”
During the proceedings, the most “awkward” and “regrettable” moment was the intrusion of Aomeren of Nokpu Village who came in Tiameren’s official vehicle, the NPF alleged. He reportedly “ordered to stop” the proceedings of the meeting saying that an NPF party office “cannot be formed in their soil whereas the exact location of the place was the land of Aonokpu Village and Longchem is the Administrative HQ of Japukong range.”
“With much patience and tolerance elderly party leaders pushed him out of the meeting,” the release said. Contrary to the pleadings not to disturb them as it was undemocratic and against the customs of the Aos, Aomeren reportedly replied that Nokpu villagers are not Aos (“Ela Aoer mecha-o”). The NPF said the concerned village authority may clarify the issue from him.
The BJP Mandal unit of 30th Alongtaki A/C, on the other hand, said it “is surprised to know about the media report regarding the organization of a new NPF unit meeting held in the outskirt of Longchem Town.”
Terming the claim of NPF workers of Mokokchung District that the BJP workers had disrupted their meeting proceeding as “unfounded and misleading people,” a release issued by the Mandal’s president said, “The Mandal office is unaware of any NPF existing in Longchem or any public notice regarding the NPF meeting held on June 3.”
The BJP said that on investigation it was found that the NPF organization meeting that was supposedly held on June 3 was disturbed by “a few boys.”
In a separate release, Imolemba, President Lakhuni Local Unit under Alongtaki A/C Nagaland clarified that more false findings have come out of the tall claims of K Moa Longkumer “Limakumba of Lakhuni was a BJP member only and his present stand is known to himself,” he said. “However, the existing Lakhuni BJP unit President is Imolemba.”
This issue is verified by the Mandal President Temjensoba and found correct in the membership register of the party and therefore the claim of K Moa is “misleading and unbecoming,” he said.
Another allegation leveled by the NPF Mokokchung Division was that a full load of ‘Rum’ in a Police Gypsy bearing No. NL-10/4518, requisitioned by “MLA Tiameren from the SP office Kohima,” was heading towards the constituency with an “evil motive to influence and to induce his supporters to exploit the NPF party installation meeting.” The vehicle reportedly met with a “horrible” accident near Tzutapela Police Check Post. “It was also reported that more than 100 scattered bottles of Rum were collected from the accident place,” the release said.
Tiameren, when contacted, flatly rejected the allegation by saying that it had no ‘basis.’ He said the vehicle itself was proof. If the vehicle had carried rum, it would still be reeking, he said. Supporting him, Mokokchung Superintendent of Police Akum Yimchunger put matters to rest by saying, “There was no alcohol in the vehicle.” He informed the vehicle in question belongs to Kohima SP and that it was on escort duty. The accident occurred after the Gypsy rammed into a truck which was carrying bricks, he said. The mishap took place on May 31.
