NPF censures news projecting TR Zeliang in “very poor light”

DIMAPUR, MARCH 5 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has censured the news headlines appearing in print and electronic media where Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang is quoted as “refusing to resign” and projected as “desperately” clinging on to the chair. “News headlines appearing in print and electronic media erroneously or maliciously portraying Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang as “desperately” clinging on to the chair and “refusing to resign” has projected him in a very poor light,” a communiqué from press bureau, NPF central headquarters stated on Monday. The NPF maintained that after Zeliang’s party emerged as the single largest majority and submitted to the Governor pre-poll alliance letters with its allies the NPP and the JD (U), the Governor, in all fairness, had given him 48 hours to prove his majority. Therefore, when efforts are on to cobble up the requisite numbers to form the Government, the question of the Chief Minister resigning at this juncture does not arise, the communiqué read. It also pointed out that technically, before a new Chief Minister is sworn in, the incumbent Chief Minister can continue as the caretaker. The NPF therefore said incorrect and malicious news reporting should be avoided at all cost.
