NPF charts for a comeback in 2018 election

Morung Express News Dimapur | February 13   Like the mythological ‘Phoenix”, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) today sought to make a comeback in the 2018 assembly election by rising from its own ashes- the crisis within the oldest regional party in North East.   In a clarion call to all NPF legislators, central office bearers and party workers, NPF general secretary, KG Kenye, today said that it was high time to bury the hatchet of past misunderstanding and to look forward to a future of reconciliation.

In the aftermath of the leadership tussle that virtually split the NPF party into two camps and the continuing reverberations, the NPF general secretary appealed for more time for the party hierarchy to repair the damages and to accommodate the interests and grievances of legislators and party workers.   “Give us time to clean and sweep wherever we are required to,” Kenye said in his address at the “Dimapur District DAN legislators coordination meeting” organized by NPF Dimapur Division held at the division office.   The party might be enjoying power for three consecutive terms; Kenye said but reminded that the main vision or slogan of the ‘Cock Party’ is not just for the sake of mere power but for a higher political future of Nagas.   NPF working president, Apong Pongener, in his address dwelled on the intricate and bonding relationship between a political party and the party-led government.   “The party is watching who is innovative and committed. We may be forced to raise our voices if the legislators are not sincere,” he said, while reminding that the party has a commitment to keep to the people of Nagaland.   Apong also informed that a team of NPF leaders would be visiting Shamator and Kiphire on February 16 next to hold talks with the tribal leaders in the aftermath of the violence there. “In such tragic times, we cannot just watch it from a distance. We have to go there.”   Advisor, Urban Development, SI Jamir, recently expelled from the state Congress, said that there is no difference of ideology between the INC and the NPF. “The difference is only with the BJP. Both the INC and NPF are secular parties.”   Other legislators including Jacob Zhimomi, parliamentary secretary for Irrigation and Flood Control, Jacob Zhimomi, Tovihoto Ayemi, chairman of NIDC and sitting MLA, Zhaleo Rio also addressed the meeting.
