NPF expels 19, suspends 10 MLAs

DIMAPUR, JULY 21 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) Central HQ today expelled 19 and suspended 10 of its MLAs. This decision was taken during a meeting of the party’s Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) on July 21, informed a press note from the NPF Central HQ.

The expelled members include Noke Wangnao, Y Patton, C Kipili Sangtam, G Kaito Aye, Imkong L Imchen, Deo Nukhu, Benjongliba Aier, Shetoyi, Khekaho Assumi, Naiba Konyak, Nuklutoshi, Longriniken, Pohwang, Kropol, CM Chang, S Phangyu Phom, Tokheho Yeptomi, Merentoshi Jamir and Imtikumzuk.

The suspended members include C Apok Jamir, Pukhai, Eshak Konyak, Tovihoto, SI Jamir, Zhaleo Rio, Namri Nchang, Neiba Kronu, Neikiesalie Nicky Kire and Neiphrezo Keditsu. Both the expulsion and suspension orders were signed by NPF Working Presidents, Huskha Yepthomi and Apong Pongener.

The press note from the NPF Central HQ informed that the party President deemed it as necessary that the mentioned legislators be either expelled or suspended from the party fold “to keep peace in the party so that the aim and objective of the party are carried out in the interest of the people of the state.”

It reasoned that the concerned members had violated the party constitution by demanding the resignation of the NPF President “without any basis” and by “defying the party Whip on the floor of the house on July 21.”

In particular reference to those expelled, the NPF President, Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu viewed them to be “inimical to the interest of the party,” informed the press note from the NPF Central HQ.
