NPF expels TR Zeliang

DIMAPUR, JULY 19 (MExN): The Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) of the NPF Central HQ has expelled newly sworn in Chief Minister, TR Zeliang from the party for a period of 6 years starting July 19.

This is reportedly the first time a political party has expelled a legislator who was sworn in as Chief Minister.

A press note from the NPF Working Presidents, Huskha Yepthomi and Apong Pongener said that this decision was taken as Zeliang “tried to destabilize and instigate the leadership of NPF led DAN Government demanding the resignation of the Party Chief Minister and its Party President.”

“He tried to stake claim and to form his Government by defying the Party Reconciliation Call and Revocation Order. In spite of an Order served to him for restoration of his Primary and Active membership of NPF, on July 13, he was adamant and has already planned to dismantle the NPF Party,” it stated.

The press note further stated that the President of the party has “come to the final conclusion that the expulsion of the above-mentioned MLA from the party has become inevitable to keep peace in the party, so that the noble aim and objectives of the party are carried out in the interest of the people and the state.”
