Dimapur, November 14 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has taken exception at the Congress’ observation that the India Today “State of the States Award for most improved State to Nagaland in infrastructure development,” to Nagaland, was “purchased.”
“It is unfortunate that the Congress leaders cannot see what even independent and respectable agencies are recognizing and acknowledging the remarkable development that has been achieved in Nagaland. The Congress leaders here also need to be reminded that the award was given by Union Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee who in his address while endorsing the awards appreciated the independent nature and accurate parameters of assessment in selecting the award winners,” the NPF media cell said.
The Nagaland Congress is also criticized by the ruling party for their “recent utterances on various matters especially on their stand on corruption.” The statement issued by the NPF’s media bureau did not refer much to the charges made against it by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee earlier on corruption but focused more on the Congress’ woes at the Centre.
The NPF said that the Congress “General Secretary Felario” had called the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland government “champion of corruption” and repeated by Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi.
“They seem to have forgotten that they are the architects of the biggest corruption scams in the history of the country. The 2G scam and the Commonwealth Games scam are just two examples of how they have plundered the country,” the NPF statement said.
According to the NPF the visit of Rahul Gandhi was awaited by the youth of Nagaland with high hopes and expectations “but his visit ended up more as a dampener as he lectured about corruption and poverty.” He will have served himself and the country well if he focused on solving “the corruption in Delhi” and the “poverty in his home state Uttar Pradesh especially in the constituencies of Amethi and Rai Bareilly.”
Asserting that the Congress “seems to making their statements without opening their eyes to the realities of what is happening in Nagaland,” the NPF said “many of the awards for achievements and improvements were bagged by states which are governed by Congress party as well.”
For a regional party like the NPF, the NPF said, “our real high command are the masses and it is only a regional party like that NPF which can echo the true voice of the Nagas while understanding the problems and issue of the local population.”
The ruling party asserted further that a party “commanded by a culture of high command politics” is “bound to get cut off from the needs and problems of the people at the grass root level and the recent utterances and visits of the Congress leaders have clearly shown the Naga people how the Congress is completely cut off from the people.”
