The Naga People’s Front, Manipur State Unit (MSU) today accorded warm welcome to ex-minister D. Korungthang, who resigned from Congress and joined the party.
Congress MLA Korungthang has resigned as member of Manipur Legislative Assembly ahead of the upcoming Manipur assembly elections.
Korungthang, also a former working president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, represents 42 Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency under Chandel district.
In reception programme held at NPF MSU office, Senapati, NPF MSU President and Minister Awangbow Newmai administered a pledge to Korungthang as formality for his entry into the party.
Korungthang said that although national party has vast area of coverage, he had decided to join the regional party like NPF to work for the betterment of the people.
Henceforth, I will work on the principle of the NPF party, he added.
Addressing the gathering, Newmai maintained that the people in the state of Manipur have full confidence on the NPF as the party which stands for most people who cannot stand for themselves.
NPF is a party who speak for those people who cannot speak for themselves. NPF is a party who stand for justice of everyone whether small or big community, he said.
He also stated that NPF is a party who love to have peace and love to have good relation with everyone.
He said that NPF believes that each and everyone have their own right but one must respect each other rights for peace
Unless we respect the right of each other, there will be conflict, he added.
“Today, we have proved to the people that we stand for justice” and stand by “our commitment,” Newmai said, further adding that the BJP-led government in Manipur is completing 5 years because of the sincerity and commitment of the NPF members.
Welcoming Korungthang and others to the party, the NPF Central Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon said, “This party stand for downtrodden people and believe in peaceful solution for all kinds of conflict.”
“This is a party that believes in peaceful coexistence with all our neighboring communities,” he said adding that “This is a party where you will also be able to express your aspirations without any reservation.”
He called upon those who are still hesitant to join the party to come forward and join the NPF party.
Kikon expressed happiness that many capable leaders are seeking for NPF party ticket for the forthcoming Manipur elections 2022.
He said the ticket selection board including NPF central office working committee will carry out the process of awarding the party ticket.
He exuded confidence that NPF seats as well as vote percentage will be increased in 2022 elections in Manipur.
Stating that peace and congenial environment is prerequisite for all round development, he said that the people in the state of Manipur deserve peace and that could only be possible with the participation of the NPF party.
Former minister Francis also spoke at the programme.
The programme was chaired by Robert T Maram, Working President NPF MSU while Sonü Matthew, President NPF, Senapati Division invoked God’s blessing for the programme. Dr Lorho S Pfoze, Member of Parliament pronounced benediction.
Manipur’s PHED and Printing & Stationary Minister L Dikho, NPF Central Youth Wing President N Vihoshe Swu and several other party leaders also present at the function.
