Kohima, March 31 (MExN): The president of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu, his team of Central Office Bearers, and the rank and file of the party have expressed grief over the deaths of Chokriveyi Venyo late last night in Dimapur, and PB Hanghu Konyak early this morning in Sonari (Assam) while on his way to Mon.
Both of them were General Secretaries in the NPF Central Office and their deaths have come as a huge blow to the party, stated a condolence message from Press Bureau, NPF Central Headquarters.
“Late Chokriveyi Venyo, fondly called CV by his friends, was a born leader who showed astute leadership qualities since his college days. He rose to prominence and caught the attention of political circles in the region during his tenure as the President of the Naga Students’ Federation during 1987-89. Honest, upright and blessed with uncanny oratorical skills, he minced no words against what he perceived were wrong doings by politicians and bureaucrats alike,” the party stated. “Soft spoken and a thorough gentleman, he was a humble person who endeared himself to all and sundry. His suggestions and opinions at various levels of NPF party meetings were valued, and his contributions to party policies and decisions shall be forever remembered and cherished.”
It further maintained that late BP Hanghu Konyak’s contributions to the NPF party were most remarkable and pronounced when he made the “supreme sacrifice” of renouncing membership of his erstwhile national political party and supported the NPF candidate in 2003 in Aboi Assembly Constituency when the party had an uphill task of taking on the might of the then ruling Congress party in the State. “Ever since, Hanghu’s unflinching support to the regional party was most commendable and with unwavering steadfastness, he extended his best to the growth and strength of the party. He was fearless in his beliefs and was ever-ready to take on the might of the powerful to ensure that truth and justice prevailed in the society,” it added.
The party extended condolences to the grieving family members of both the leaders and prayed to the Almighty to grant solace and comfort to all their near and dear ones.
The NPF Phek division also expressed shock over the demise of Chokriveyi Venyo. In a condolence message, it remembered Chokriveyi as a true public leader, a man of dignity always ready to extend his life at the cost of social cause. His untimely death, it stated, has caused a huge vacuum in the society. The NPF Phek division also conveyed condolences to his wife, children and all bereaved family members.
