Asks parties to focus on the Naga political problem
KOHIMA, OCTOBER 2 (MExN): NPF President and cabinet minister, Shürhozelie Liezietsu, in a statement, has clarified on points related to the current debacle between the NPCC and Home Minister Imkong L. Imchen, specifically the NPCC’s statement against the HM.
Highlighting the unique nature of the Joint Legislature Forum (JLF), Shürhozelie writes that “We believe we have been playing our role in the right direction and expect that all sections of people should take advantage of the unity of 60 Members that has been displayed in letter and spirit. We are also hopeful that Government of India will seize the opportunity and act in the right manner.”
Dr. Shürhozelie added that it would be best if political parties strengthened the JLF instead of “trying to score political points” and focus on a solution to the Naga political problem.
Pointing out the political nature of the language used by the Home Minister, Shürhozelie writes, “The Home Minister while addressing the Party meeting at Mokokchung has said that in the event of a political solution failing to come about before the conduct of elections, there would be no option left but to go for election as per the require schedule of the Election Commission of India. It was only an advice given to the Party leaders to be prepared for any eventuality.” Also, while acknowledging NPCC’s acknowledgment of his expression of regret over the HM’s statement, the NPF President says that any other issue raised along side will be considered “political language”.
For instance, “allegations of fraudulent withdrawal of fund in Police Department or the case of missing arms in the Police Department are cases which were discussed exhaustively on the floor of the House and outside and satisfactory replies were already given time and again” and that the “matter should end there”.
As for the Naga People’s Front, writes Shürhozelie, “We stand solidly behind the JLF for its commitment to solve the Naga political problem and its readiness to make sacrifices for bringing about a lasting peace to our land – a political settlement which is honourable and acceptable to the people”.
