NPF reviews 2025, backs religious freedom, renews pledge for 2026

KOHIMA, DECEMBER 30 (MExN): As 2025 draws to a close, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Tuesday reflected on what it described as a year of important milestones and steady progress, saying that collective efforts of its leaders, workers and the people have strengthened the party’s commitment to the welfare and interests of the Naga people.

In a press communiqué, the NPF said one of the major highlights of the year was the historic merger of the NDPP and the NPF, which it said has further strengthened regional politics and reinforced unity and stability in governance.

The party expressed gratitude to the Naga public, Church leaders, civil society organisations and well-wishers for their continued support, prayers and guidance.

At the same time, the NPF said it was disappointed that the Naga people are yet to overcome discontent over the denial of a visa to Rev Franklin Graham for a visit to Nagaland. It added that recent incidents, including disruption of church services and vandalism of Christmas decorations reported from various states, have caused further concern and posed a threat to the Christian community.

The party said such developments hurt religious sentiments and go against the spirit of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of faith, secularism and mutual respect. It maintained that the issues are deeply sensitive and require swift action by the concerned authorities to safeguard and promote peace and harmony among various religious communities.

Reiterating its stand, the NPF said it stands firmly in solidarity with the Christian community and reaffirmed its commitment to culture, tradition and faith.

The party also welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s participation in a Christmas service and said it hopes the gesture reflects genuine respect and recognition of all faiths, along with sincere efforts to safeguard religious freedom across the country.

Looking ahead to 2026, the NPF renewed its pledge to serve the people with dedication, honesty and integrity, and extended New Year greetings, expressing hope that the coming year would usher in peace, unity and progress.

The statement was issued by the Press Bureau of the Naga People’s Front, Central Headquarters, Kohima.
